Position: Senior Engineering Development Manager

Reporting to: Vice President, Research & Development

Summary

The Sr. Engineering Development Manager is the key engineering leader on development programs, managing the implementation of all aspects of the design, whether internally or ODM designed. This senior leader will interface and communicate with outside suppliers, while providing program management leadership to manage the scope, schedule, resource and budget requirements to deliver programs ensuring all requirements are met.

Essential Job Functions/Expectations:

  • Manage multi-disciplined engineering team to define, specify and/or design, and deliver to production Motion Computing computer system platforms and devices ensuring all requirements are met
  • Effectively interface and communicate with outside suppliers
  • Provide effective project management leadership managing the scope, schedule, and resource requirements to deliver a program ensuring all requirements are met
  • Responsible for the effective application of the correct resource set (internal/external) balanced with the schedule and budget ensuring overall program success
  • Utilize strong technical and industry knowledge in helping to define industry leading products
  • Demonstrate strong engineering leadership and knowledge across engineering disciplines to effective lead a team of EE's, ME's, S/W, PM's, & Techs
  • Manage and coordinate detailed budgets for assigned projects
  • Reconcile program expenditures versus program budget over the development and launch of a program
  • Define, manage, and track detailed schedules for assigned projects ensuring programs are delivered on committed dates
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and cultural knowledge while working with Asian ODM Suppliers/Manufactures
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and cooperative working methods in working with Marketing and other cross functional team members during development and delivery of products
  • Subject matter expert for project timelines, budgets, status and interdependencies, communicating the overall program status to engineering management team and other key constituents as required

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • BS or MS degree in a Computer Science related Field
  • 10 to 15 years industry experience
  • 10 years related experience in the design of hardware/software products (along with associated peripherals) including previous experience in a lead or 1st level management capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in managing complex multi-disciplined system design efforts from inception to production
  • Direct first level engineering management and leadership experience
  • Significant experience working with Asian suppliers
  • Direct ODM design experience with Asian suppliers
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong budgeting and expense tracking skills to manage inside a given program budget
  • Strong scheduling and resource allocation abilities
  • Ability to assess risk, and manage conflict, and exhibit good business judgment
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Thorough knowledge of technologies and computer-related products with strong knowledge of PC technology and various operating systems, platforms and tools
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including strong presentation skill
  • Experience in full product life-cycle of design and implementation through customer shipment, ideally in a large team environment
  • Experience in tablet/slate technology preferred
